Specialized Hydrological Studies

Hydrological analysis and its importance in the study area

A geotechnical study is the set of activities used to obtain the geological and geotechnical information about a site that is needed to prepare a construction project. Before undertaking any project or work, the characteristics of the land involved must be understood. Tutor Negotia therefore analyzes geological and seismic information for the project area, static water levels and aquifer identification, among other factors, to determine the limitations or problems, and the magnitude of the geotechnical hazards and risks, of the site where the project will be developed.

When a project is planned in areas close to rivers, streams or other bodies of water that the project may affect, a hydrological or hydraulic study is required. Tutor Negotia carries out hydrological studies to define the risks to which the project infrastructure may be exposed, such as flooding, as well as the hydraulic consequences the project may have, for example on the condition of a watershed or a nearby body of water that could be affected during the different stages of development.

HYDROLOGICAL AND HYDRAULIC STUDIES

Our team of hydrology and hydraulic engineers has carried out hydrological and hydraulic studies and research, geomorphology, stable channel design, scour calculations, countermeasures, floodplain analysis and permitting. This work has taken us to a variety of climate regions and geomorphological settings, including deserts, mountains and lowland wetlands.

Field reconnaissance and data collection are a fundamental part of hydrological and hydraulic work, identifying potential problems at sites that require drainage analysis and design. Our staff routinely address concerns related to flooding, stream stability, maintenance and environmental impacts.

SPECIALIZED BATHYMETRIC STUDIES
The bathymetric study is the main and most important input for a marine works project. A detailed representation of the seabed makes it possible to understand the morphology of the area before design begins. We carry out all types of studies and data interpretation, including waves, breezes and thermoclines.

We conduct bathymetric surveys of the seabed with single beam echo sounder equipment, along with data processing and seabed plans and sections, both printed and digital.

Our Special Services

  • Watershed characterization.
  • Flood risk maps.
  • Delimitation of federal zones.
  • River channel design and rectification.
  • Design of diversion and storage dams.
  • Watershed planning and management.
  • Erodibility studies.
  • Infiltration volumes.
  • Design and construction of infiltration wells.
  • Water balance.
  • Determination of reserves.
  • Water quality monitoring.
  • Hydraulic modeling.

We work with site data to develop and recommend cost saving options that are consistent with our clients' goals and with applicable standards. Our engineers have the experience and knowledge to identify and solve present and future problems while working with multiple clients in sensitive situations.

We also have extensive experience preparing hydraulic and energy infrastructure projects, taking into account key factors such as:

  • Geotechnical reports for the project and its surroundings.
  • Geological maps from government databases and our own developments.
  • Seismicity maps and inputs for the project site and the region.
  • Investigation of boreholes and associated data in all regions.
  • Data on current and projected land uses and public utilities.
  • Areas of importance for biodiversity and cultural heritage that are legally protected at the local, regional, national and/or international level.
  • Marine, terrestrial and/or avian life and other habitats.
  • Seawater quality and composition.
  • Sites and species of high biodiversity value.
  • Visual effects and/or pollution affecting receptors (people and/or wildlife) and competing uses (for example, commerce and tourism).
  • Underwater noise and vibration impacts of construction on marine life.
  • Occupational health and safety.
  • Community health and safety (for example, productive fishing areas, productive farmland and archaeological sites or cultural practices and norms).
  • Greenhouse gas emissions from the use and/or replacement or reduction of fossil fuel consumption for power generation.
